The movie stars Tim Allen (Home Improvement tv, Galaxy Quest), Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Philadelphia), Joan Cusack (In & Out, Addam's Family Values), Ned Beatty (Spring Foward, Deliverance), Don Rickles (Casino, The Rat Race), Michael Keaton (Batman 1989, Pacific Heights), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion), John Ratzenberger (Cheers tv,The Village Barbershop), Estelle Harris (Seinfeld tv,The Grand), and Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina).
The plot is the toys are donated to a daycare, whos toys are ruled by a ruthless but cuddly bear. They had to make from the trash can to the daycare escape from the dump back home.
The movie stars off very well it got me involved from the start. I thought the toy home movie section was a good idea also. The family dog was funny, a very fat old dog.
I did actually wright down thta Lotsa reminded me of a Mafia Don. His dialog just got me thinking. It was no suprise that he ruled with an iron fist. He was avery bitter character. The monkey who manned the video screens could easily come across as scarry. When he got tossed down by the baby it reminded me of some classic (horror? ) scene. I dont know if it was a Frankstein scene but very intense.
Im rating the movie as a C+. I had high expectations of the ending and was a little disapointed. Its worth going to see but the ending was hyped for it to live up to the advanced billing.
Hi everybody, A short introduction. When I looked at my Netflix account it said that I had rated 967 movies I decided a blog might be in order. A basic overview "A" is excelent "B" is worth going to. "C" could go eather way. "D" meany probally skip. "F" basicily means no redeming qualities and the makers of the film should pay you for the time you lost.

Enter the Dragon (1973 R)
The movie stars Bruce Lee (Fist of Fury, Return of the Dragon), John Saxon (The Party Crashers, Bottom Feeders), Kien Shih (The Young Master, Duel at the Supreme Gate), Yang Sze (Kung Fu Master, Dragon Attacks), and Bob Wall (The Game of Death, Return of the Dragon).
The plot of the movie is Lee enters a contest, run by a monk from his Monistary, to get information on the illegal drug trade for the British government.
I dont know where to start. The vocal choices of some of the characters seem they are trying to come off as Western. It did not work on any level except to come off as bad theater. The sound effects were bad technically and seem just wrong for the choices.
I thought some of the blocking in the fight scenes were bad. The characters were just waiting like they hit there mark early and had nothing to do for a few seconds so they just stood there. The flashbacks for the backstory of the other two Americans was almost farce. Also it did not seem to have anything to do with the story. I thought the betting on the matches was out of place and distracting.
I got no sence of hstory of the martial arts culture in this movie. I think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a much better movie. I have not seen it since it came out but visually it was a much better movie. Kung Fu Hustle was a farce that worked for me (even though I think it made a worst movie of all time so be forewarned). Enter came across as a movie they wanted to be a hit in America and catered to what they thought Americans wanted to see or there ideas of Eastern culture.
I may just not like some of the classics. I thought Raging Bull was a very inconsistant movie. Im rating this movie as a C- or D. Not worth the time.

Chasing 3000 (2007 PG)
The movie stars Trevor Morgan (The Sixth Sence, Jurassic Park), Rory Culkin (Twelves, Signs), Ray Liotta (Dominick ane Eugene, Field of Dreams), M. Emmet Walsh (Don McKay, Wild Wild West), Seymour Cassel (It Could Happen to You, Rushmore), Lori Petty (The Poker House, A League of There Own), and Keith David (They, Don McKay).
The plot is a grown up Liotta tells his kids about a road trip he and his brother take to see Roberto Clemente get his 3000's hit.
At the start of the movie there is a feel of A Field of Dreams. The dad takes off and baseball plays a big part in the movie. Later on the movie reminded me a little of Stand By Me. Its a comming of age road trip movie. To see Lori Petty with grey hair was unexpected.
There was a scene where Walsh recounts Clemente being nice to him when he was a kid. The casting and the way his character was developed was 100% the wrong way to go. It did not connect with me on amy kind of emotoinal level. There is a scene towards the end where Liotta and his brother recount the fond memories of the trip. That scene did not work at all. It seemed forced was no where close to the emotional responce it wanted to evoke. There was no sence of emotional debth in the entire movie.
Im rating this movie as a C- or D, I would suggest Field of Dreams or Stand By Me eather will be a lot better use of your time even if you have seen them before.

Never Forever (2007 R)
The movie stars Vera Famiga (The Departed, Nothing but the Truth), Asa Somers (Clear Blue Tuesday), Shirley Roeca, Jackson Pace (Queen Sized, Cool Dog), Alex Manette, Jung-woo Ha (Time, Like You Know it All), and David McInnis (Typhoon).
The plot is in an attempt to save her marriage, in toruble because her husbands dad just died and he tried to commit suicide because he is infertal, starts and cant end an affair after becoming pregnate.
The first thing out is this. This is one of the dakest most depressing movies I can ever remember seeing. No really. Famiga character is obsessive about folding her cloths before having sex with the "sperm donner." By the way there are sex scenes so parents be warned.
There is something to be said for Famigas character good intentions. Her husband desperatly wants a child and she feels this is her only way out to help someone she loves. The movie is a downward spiral that seems to have no bottom. Its a desperate love story with no apparent winners.
The end of the movie is a little happier then I would expect given the tone of the first 90% of the movie. Im not saying its bad just it seems out of context for the movie.
I could go eather way on this movie so for now I will rate it as a C+ and say go and stream it with a caveat or two. If you want a happy movie stay away from this movie. If you want to stay in a good mood stay away from this movie. If you are sad and want something to reinforce that stream this movie.

Adam (2009 PG13)
The movie stars Hugh Dancy (Ella Enchanted, Black Hawk Down), Rose Byrne (28 Weeks Later, X-Men First Class), Peter Gallagher (High Spirits, American Beauty), and Amy Irving (Carrie, I'm Not Rappaport).
The plot revolves around the budding relationship between a person with Aspergers and a school teacher.
There were a few scenes at the start of the movie which worked for me. The laundry scene I thought was good. And the scene on the stoop was good also. I had a conversation about diet Coke and Mentos that even while I was talking I was thinkng what the hell am I doing. I also thought the astronomy scene in Dancys apartment was well done as well.
I thought the scene about Dancy state of panic before the date was well done. Dancys portrail of someone with Aspergers was accurate. He is not likable and he is a very hard person to deal with. The scene after the funeral with Dancys friend was well done also.
The basic Aspergers language was dead on. Does not go too much deeper then skin deep but the information given was correct. I think there are simularities between Adam and Sandra Bullocks character in All About Steve (got a few Rasperies a few years ago. I thought her movie The Proposal was a much worse movie but thats another post).
The characters seemed to ease into dating and having sex. Maybe a little lacking in the distnct events that would lead people to eather situation.
Is this a great movie no, is it accurate about Aspergers yes at least on a basic level. I thought the ending of the movie was a good way to end it. Maybe not the hoped for Hollywood ending but more realistic. The rough number of Aspies who get married that end in divorce is somewhere around 80% give or take. You think that 50% is bad try 80%. The characters deal with stuff and move on as best they can.
This was a situation where I was glad to watch the credits. Some of the people who were thanked were Ken Olin, Patricia Wettig, Rob Morrow, and Julianna Margules. Just thought it was neat.
Im rating this movie as a B. If you are tired of typical Hollywood movies go out and stream or rent this one.

Raging Bull (1980 R)
The movie stars Robert DeNiro (Taxi Driver, The Untouchables), Cathy Moriarty (Cop Land, Digging to China), Joe Pesci (My Cousin Vinny,Betsy's Wedding), Nicholas Colasanto (Cheers tv, Fat City), and Theresa Saldana (The Commish, Victims for Victims).
The plot follows the life of boxer Jake LaMottas life inside and outside of the ring. Pesci playes his brother Moriarty plays his teenage wife.
I had a bad day before seeing the movie so I was not in a great mood before seeing this movie but watched it none the less. Whatever thats worth here we go.
There were intense scenes with DeNiro and Pesci. They were well cast as brothers. Pesci plays
the New Yorker well, it can be said that that is all he plays but he does it very well.
The boxing scenes were all excellent. it was almost worth watching the entire movie for the few boxing scenes alone. For me the best fight scene was the last Robnson fight. I dont know if it was surreal but very well done.
The biggest problem I had with the film was at times it seemed to have no emotional feeling what so ever. DeNiro did not come across with any emotion. When he lost his temper it was one thing but there were times when I did not see any emotion.
When they used the home movies to skip over a few years at first it bothered me. The fact that they only used it once was ok. If they had used that to skip over a few years again it would of been a problem for me.
The frst scene after skipping foward was great, about DeNiro in a no loose situation. Pesci line about who asked you was ad libbed, from what I remember, just adds a lot to the scene.
The confrontation scene between DeNiro and Pesci was not that good. The blocking was bad or the set was too small. It may of been edited wrong or the sound editing may of been bad. But the over all scene did not work for me at all.
The scene of DeNiro in the small bar, with a seating copacity of about 10, was effective. It really showed how far he had fallen. Not only in such a small venue but the pounds he put on showed how far he had fallen.
Im rating this movie as a C. For me today, a bad day, it was a little inconsistant. There were parts that were great and then parts that had no emotional ties with me at all.

Metropolis Restored (1927 NR)
The movie stars Alfred Abel (Dr Mabuse The Gambler), Gustav Frohlich, Rudolf Klein-Rogge (Dr Mabuse The Gambler, Destiny), Fritz Rasp, Theodor Loos (M Murders Among Us), Erwin Biswanger, Heinrich George, Brigitte Helm.
The son of the creator of Metropolis decides to join the opressed workers in a revolt. Its about the father wanting an excuse to use force to justify keeping the workers done. A female religous leader is in the fathers plan and also is in love with the son.
The start of the movie is a nice visual with the autoton of the workers. A scene towards the beggining is a nice visual the symetry works well. the music is also an enhancement. Some things are curious, there is a lack of futurism in the planes they use and see in the sky. The views of the city remind me of Escher prints. The costumes remind me more of 1927 then 2026. The ffuturistic computers look like what I think people of the time think they would look like.
A lot of the movie the actors seem to be over acting using big gestures. I did not like but came to accept it because without dialog they had to do something toget the point of the scene across.
One scene where the son is distraught it reminded me of the druged out scene from the boat scene in Willie Wanka and the Choclate Factory. Some of the set decoration reminded me of Flash Gordon (1980 or 1981) kind of sharp edges. There was a scend where there were flying eyes that kind of reminded me of the Twilight Zone episode Eye of the Beholder.
With some masterpeices there is social comentary. Abusive working conditions, monopolies, and the dangers of capitalism (not too sure of the last one but Ill leave it in), and the dangers of mob mentality Some of the scenes towards the end look really good some look like mini sets. But I thought they did a good job wth the real sets.
The ending is alittle corney and it kind of hits you over the head.
Im all for making up your mind if something is worthy of the title a classic or not. But with some of them you just have to say ok Ill see it because experts say its good. This is why I watched this but it was better then I thought. A warning the running time is 2 hours 28 minutes be forwarned its a long movie.
Im rating this movie as a C+ or B-.

Win Win (2010 R)
The movie stars Paul Giamatti (Sideways, American Splendor), Amy Ryan (War of the Worlds, Capote), Bobby Cannavale (The Station Agent, 100 Feet), Jeffrey Tambor (Get Well Soon, Radioland Murders), Burt Young (Rocky, Back to School), Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men tv, Leaves of Green), Alex Shaffer, and Margo Martindale (Mo, Lorenzo's Oil).
The plot is Giamatti plays a second rate lawyer, and part time wrestling coach, in need of clients. He gets one and becomes his guardian and $1500 a month as a fee. His plan gets him into trouble when the grandson of the new wealthy client, a great wresler. The daughterof his clients show up for some of the payday.
I had high expectations for this movie. It was directed by the guy who directed The Station Agent (stream this movie as soon as you can) and also stars Cannavale, also from The Station Agent. I like a lot of what Giamatti has been in. Its hard to live up to the expectations I had.
The movie starts off very slowly. I dont thnk it got started to get good untill the kid arrives on the scene. Shaffer, I assume he playes the wrestler, does a great job. he gives an understated performance that works very well. I like the head slaps. Just because it seems like we live in a litigious society that if any parent sees that they would say something about it.
More then a few movies think that excesive cursing is something that is funny. Let me try and be polite to the people who think that excesive cursing is funny. You are dead fucking wrong. The cursing in this movie by Cabbavales character is funny. Its used in the correct portion and he is told not to do it around kids. That makes it funny to me.
The climx was alright not great but well done. Im rating this movie as C+. I had high expections so maybe if I watch it in the future I will enjoy it more. Go and see it and I hope your expectstions arent as high as mine.

The Four Faced Liar (2010 NR)
The movie stars Marja Lewis Ryan, Emily Peck, Todd Kubrak, Daniel Carlisle, Liz Osborn, Lias Bierman, Natasha David, Jessie Paddock, and Tadia K Taylor.
The plot is four people meet in a NYC bar and become friends as they sturggle to figure out what directions there lives should take. Its a 20 something comming of age.
The four are very diffrent and I found it hard to think they would be friends. I guess we all have friends that are totally diffrent from us from time to time. A few were trying to figure out there sexual preferances. I guess in late teens and early 20's are when people start thinking about that kind of stuff.
I though the tone of the movie was trying too hard to be cool, hip and lnked into the 20's idea of cool. It did not work for me but then again I am just a little older then the target audiance, I just might not get it. There were a few lines that seemed to hit the mark and seem smart and on targaret.
Some of the characters seemed one dimentional. Some of them do try and break out of there one way of looking at life. I thought it weird that one of the females would buzz someone in at 3am with out verfying who it was.
One of the female leads in certain scenes look like a cross between Scarlett Johansson and Clair Danes, leaning more towards Danes If you like movies that answer all the loose ends of the movie this is not the movie for you. Its not bad in case but there is no real resolution.
Im rating this movie as a C- and would say skip it watch The Breakfast Club, a much better movie..

ZigZag (2002 R)
The movie stars Sam Jones III (Krews), John Leguizamo (Babysitters, Moulin Rouge), Natasha Lyonne (Jelly, Fast Sofa), Wesley Snipes (Blade, Passanger 57), Oliver Platt (Flatliner, A Time to Kill), and Elizabeth Pena (Across the Moon, Adrift in Manhatten).
The plot of the movie is Jones is an Autistic dish washer who steals money from his boss to pay rent to his abusive father, Snipes. Leguizamo is his Big Brother who tries to form a plan to return the money while batteling cancer.
Im rating this movie as a C- which translates to skipping the movie. It has a lot of themes that should of made it a good movie but I cant recomend it. A big brother with cancer a "disabled' kid with an abusive dad and a racist boss. Jones character is spared by a cop who could of been a hard ass.
I was not that impressed by the acting Jones did. I dont know if it was that he did a bad job or the fact that people with Autism can be hard to understand. The ending of the movie was good. Some good things happend and some bad things happened. But the ending was not strong enough for me to say it was worth the effort to stream it.

District B13 (2004 R)
The movie stars Cyril Raffacelli (Kiss of the Dragon), David Belle, Tony D'Amario, Bibi Naceri, Dany Verissimo, Francois Chattot, and Nicolas Woirion.
The plot is a elite unit cop and a vigilane are sent into a walled off section of a future Paris (think Escape from New Youk I think. I have not seen Escape from New York.) to disarm a bomb stolen by a drug gang.
So first of all the movie is subtitled if that bothers you, think about not seeing this movie. I am sure the plot is nothing new. It will never be up for Best Foreign Language Oscar. That being said if you like movies like Die Hard (only example I can think of off hand) you will like this movie. For what it is it is good. If you want to go and see a fast paced movie go and stream this one. There is a little bt of social comentary towards the end I wish there was a little more.
Im rating this movie as a strong C+ or a weak B-. Leave your brain at the door and have a good time There were a lot of good stunts in the movie. I forget what its called but its something like a freelance scalling of walls.

Mad Monster Party (1967 NR)
The movie stars Boris Karloff (Frankenstein, The Mummy), Allan Swift, Gale Garnett (Leona Helmsley the Queen of Mean), Phyllis Diller (Goodnight, We Love You, Eight on the Lamb), and Ethel Ennis.
The plot of the movie is Frankstein is going to retire and name the new head of a world wide organization of monsters. He gathers some monsters, the Invisible Man and The Mummy among others. His nephew is there as he is to be the new leader. The monsters dont like that idea and plot to kill the nephew.
This is a very bizzar movie. You should know with in about two minutes if this movie is for you. The music reminds me of songs from 60's James Bond movies and the stop motion is like Rudolf the Red Nosed Raindeer from the 60's also. I did not like the fact that Diller, Frankensteins bride, refered to Franksteins monster as Fang. I always thought that was part ofher comedy act nothing to do with Frankstein.
Im rating this movie as a C or C+. But you should realize that it is the type of thing you will eather like or hate. I dont see any middle ground. If you are in the right mood it can be enjoyable. I dont see this movie being anything like something you would find in any top 100 list but could be mindless fun for some.

There Be Dragons (2011 PG13)
Teh movie stares Charlie Cox (Stone of Destiny), Wes Bentley (The Last Word, Weirdsvlle), Doughray Scott (The Truth About Love, Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde), Unax Ugalde (Goya's Ghosts), Olga Kuylenko (Centurion), Pablo Lapadula, Golshiteh Farahani (Shirin), Rusty Lemorande (The Truth of the Screw), and Ana Torent (The Spirit of the Beehive).
The plot revolves about two childhood friends. It takes place durring the Spanish Civil war. One friend becomes a preist, starting Opus Dai, the other joins the forecs fighting Franco. The freedom fighters son is doing a book on the priest who is being investigated for Sainthood.
Some movies are hard to have to watch because they suck. This movie is not one of those movies. There are a few graphic scenes which may bother some people but I recomend going to see it anyway. The characters are interisting. i dont think the fact that it was based on real people affected the movie eather way.
The visual and photography of the movie is a big plus to the movie. And when that is contrasted to the total whitness of the hospital scene at the end of the movie it works for the contrast.
Im rating this movie as a BIt may take a little effort to find this movie but you should not be dissapointed. Just dont go to the time when the guy sitting in frount of you likes to add his commentary to the film.

The Lodger (2009 R)
The movie stars Alfred Molina (Mavrick, Spider Man 2), Hope Davis (The Nines, Hearts in Atlantis), Simon Baker (L.A. Confidential, The Mentalist tv), Shane West, Rachael Leigh Cook (Jossie and the Pussycats, Falling Up), Phillip Baker Hall (All Good Things, Duck) and Kirk Fox.
The plot is Molina a cop is investigating the killings of prostitutes. The killer is back after a 7 year lay off. Mollina was the cop who put the suspect to death 7 years ago,. Davis has a lodger that may or may not be real who is a suspect.
The first scene did not draw me in that much. I thought the demand of the lodger, Baker, was a little too much to ask of a landlord. I think it took too long to draw me into the story. There was nothing to make me feel connected to the story. There was one good twist in the story, weather or not Baker is real.
The climax of the movie did not work for me. It seemed to me that they were trying to make the ending into two opposite explanations. (It like an immmovable object and an irristable force they cant excist in the same universe). They tried to have there cake and eat it to and it was confusing. Pick an ending and go with it.
I rated this movis as a C- or D. It was based on a Hitchcock movie (of the same name in 1927). I have not seen it but I would even think a bad Hitchcock is better then this movie.

Losers of the Year (2005 TV Mature)
This movie stars David M Zuber, Amanda Bernen, Chris Gallucci, Jon Budinoff (Someone's Knocking at the Door), Carolina Capehart, and Jonathan Rice.
The plot is a home schooled kid goes to public high school. He is welcomed by some nerdy kids. Gets a makeover. Becomes popular. Dumps on his origional friends then makes up with them.
Ok so here is the deal this movie is a step below an F-. This was so bad I actually wanted to break my computer. I wont waste too much time on this dog of a movie. Im all for free speach but there are somethings that are so bad that there should be limits. You cant yell "Fire" in a crowded theater and this should not be allowed to be viewed by anybody.
If given the choice between watching this movie or getting another stint put in an artery I take the stint. Please do not be tempted to watch ever a little bit of this movie. If you do you have been cautioned.

Heaven Can Wait (1942 NR)
The movie stars Don Ameche (Trading Places, Things Change), Gene Tierney, (Night and the City, Where the Sidewalk Ends), Charles Coburn (Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, Impact), Majorie Main (Meet Me in St. Louis, Boy of the Street), and Larid Cregar (I Wake Up Screaming).
The plot is Ameche pleades his case to get into Hell. Its an interisting concept I have never thought of having to justify yourself to get into Hell.
One problem with the movie is I dont remember how things were in the 40's since I was born in the 60's. It means I dont have the same morals or ethics of the time. I did not see any real emotional debth in the characters. The view of women is also diffrent. Sendking a woman to the library to rest because she sneezed. What he was conessing to was not that bad. There was a line about being barbaric for throwing water in the face of a sick child to make him feel beter. I guess since the envalope is always being pushed there are things that I dont mind that people who are older it bothers them.
Im rating this movie as a D. See the one with Warren Beatty. That is another problem. I went in with expectations of the movie with Warren Beatty. I liked the one with Beatty so it made it harder for this one to get the same reaction.

Then She Found Me (2007 R)
The movie stars Helen Hunt (Mad About You tv, As Good As it Gets), Colin Firth (The King's Speach, Dorian Gray), Bette Midler (For the Boys, Beaches), Matthew Broderick (Ferris Buelers Day Off, War Games), and Lynn Cohen (The Jimmy Show, Manhatten Murder Mystery).
The plot of the movie is Hunt is going through a mid life crisis. Her husband leaves her, she reconnects with her birth mother who gave her up for adaption, the death of her adaptive mother, dating the father of one of her students, and trying to get pregnate.
Im rating the movie as a C- so it is a mild pass but a pass not the less. Hunts character gets in trouble for her husband quitting. I fail to see why people who are suspose to be grown ups would blame Hunts character for being a shit and not a grown up and quitting. The pacing of the movie in the first half to two thids is too jumpy. It just is from one thing to another and is distracting.
Midlers character, a talk show host, is bad. She is self centered and a meglamanic. I think the character gets a little better towards the end of the movie. The best thing about the movie is Firths charactrer. His character is flawed but on the whole he knows it. He knows what he has to do to deal with being a single dad and does not care about apearances. He is the most in tuen character in the movie. Broderick character is just a child. He wears a baseball hat to an ob/gyn appoitment and it makes him appear about 10. I guess thats the point that he is just a child. he moves in with his mother like a child. He brings his current girlfriend to another ob appoitment. it made for a very awkard scene. But how stupid do you have to be to bring your girlfriend to an ob appoitment with your to be ex wife (and her boyfriend).
The end of the movie is ok. I wont give up what happens in the end.It leaves a few things up in the air. You have to decide how it happens on your own there are no clues as to how they got to where they are.
On the whole I say skip it and just watch something else.

Don McKay (2009 R)
The movie stars Thomas Haden Church (Wings tv, Easy A), Elisabeth Shue (Hollow Man, Leaving Las Vegas), Rachel Harker, M. Emmet Walsh (Alice's Restaurant, Wild Wild West), Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River), James Rebhorn (My Cousin Vinney, Far from Heaven), and Keith David (They Live, Platoon).
The plot of the movie is Church goes home to visit an ex girlriend. When he gets there things start going wrong and secret plots start to come out from the ex girlfriend, her doctor, and her nurse.
This movie starts off well the quiet of Churchs character sets the tone of the movie very well. One bad thing is the set seems small. Church seems almost ready to hit his head on the set. Over the course of the movie Shue gets creapier and creapier. The secrets of the characters are revealed at a good pace.
The climax of the movie is a little over the top. I am rating this movie as a C+ or B-. The tone of the movie and the acting is enough for me to recomend the movie despite the crazy ending.

Thor (2011 PG 13)
The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman (Brothers, Cold Mountain), Stellan Skarsgard (Good Will Hunting, The Hunt for Red October), Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Howard's End), Kat Dennings (The Answer Man), Clark Gregg (Ther New Adventures of OldChristrine, The Air I Breathe), and Rene Russo (Outbreak, Tin Cup).
The plot is after launching an attack on enemies Hemsworth power is taken away by his dad, Hopkins, and forced to live on Earth. He is befriended by Portman and her coworkers.
The movie start off with Portman comming across as a type of scientist played by Jodi Foster in Contact, sort of an out of the box thinker. Maybe the first half or two thirds of the movie there are a lot of funny one liners. One I remember is the guy from SHIELD (actor Clark Gregg), asks if a robot was something from Tony Stark (for those of you who have a life thats the name of Iron Mans alterego). its not as funny, or as good as Iron Man or Hancock but still funny.
The Worm hole generator reminds me of Stargate a little bit or maybe to a lesser degree Contact. The computer generated settings were nice but a little to far for me it. I have nothing to compare it to other the Hubble telescope images and some of those dont look real. Plus I dont think the computer generated horses at the start dont look that real to me.
Im rating the movie as a C+.It is not as good as the other super hero movies. Its worth going to seebut not a home run. Its harder for me to do the suspension of disbelef. Its "easier" to belive Tony Stark build a suit then to beleive in the Gods for me. They are not human so less familure to me. Batman is a flawed man with the money to build really neat toys. I think people can relate to how feelng resonible for the death of ones parents can mess up someones mind.
There are a few super hero movies where the directors suprise me. Jon Favreau for both Iron Man, Peter Berg for Hancock. And Kenneth Branagh for this one. Also I was suprised that J. Michael Straczynski (creator of Babalon 5 from TV) who was listed under the stroy line on the credits.
And speaking of credits as a general rule, and this one in particular, when you go to movie based on comic books watch the credits all the way to the end. There is usually a scene after the credits have ended.

Ten Inch Hero (2006 or 2007 R)
The movie stars Elisabeth Harnois (Keith, Chaos Theory), Clea DuVall (Joan of Aracadia tv I think, 21Grams), Sean Patrick Flanery (The Dead Zone tv, Lone Hero), Jensen Ackles (Devour, My Bloody Valentine), Alice Kreig (Chariots of Fire, The Sorcerer's Apprentice), Danneel Harris, John Doe (Breakdown Palage, Without you Im Nothing) and Sean Wing.
The plot ofthe movie is basicly take Mystic Pizza make it a sub shop and move it to Santa Cruz. It tracks the lives of three waitresses, a short order cook, and a sub shop owner in Santa Cruz. One thinks she found her daughter she was forced to give up for adaption, another is dating a person she meets on line then in real life, one is the loose girl, the owner also has an active social life. Its about them finding the person that is right for them.
They are all misfits of one kind or another. This is like a version of Mystic Pizza. Babysitter dates the father, the wife is out ofthe picture, a sandwitch shop instead of Pizza, there is a slut a brain waitress with a parental influence who ownes the business.
There are a few problems with the movie. One nobody waits for change in this movie very weird. The wife of Flanery in the movie could of been reveled a little better but thats just me. I thought it weird that there was a Danneel listed as the muse under the music part of the credits. I would love to hear the backstory about that.
Im rating this movie as a C+ or B-. If you liked Mystic Pizza stream this movie. Even though there are alot of simularities it is good enough to stand on its own. I think it is a Chick Flick, but when a movie is good labels dont matter that much.
So if you want to do something fun stream MysticPizza and this one and see how simular they are. Or at least I think they are very simular.

Steel Toes (2005 or 2006 R)
This movie stars David Strathairn (Silkwood, Good Night and Good Luck), Andrew W Walker, Marina Orsini (Eddie and the Crusiers 2), Ivan Smith, and Araon Grunfeld.
The plot of the movie is Strathairn, a liberal Jewish lawer, is assigned a case to defend an admitted murderer, Walker, who is a Skin Head.
I am in a little quandery of what to say about this movie. It starts off as a movie about hate and a senseless killing. I am rating it as an A. I think it should be seen by as many people as possible. I think the fact that it was a Canadian product may be why people may not of heard of it.
Walker starts off the movie as a non apologic Skin Head. He is also a character with debth and intelligance. He can not be dismissed as a person of pure hate and stupidity. He is not presented to convert people but he can not be disregarded as pure evil. His actions are unforgivable but maybe the movie tries to seporate the person from the act and the hate speach. Walker character is scarry because he cant be dismissed as a one dimential racist. His character comes across as almost charming and likeable.
Strathairn what can I say about him. I dont know if he is smart in picking scripts, if his script reader passes on good scripts, of if he makes what he is in that much better. He has that in common with PatriciaClarkson (even though I do remember a movie as a Head Mistress. Nobodys perfect).
The end of the movie is good. It shows the consquences, both good and bad for Strathairns character. The TV interview of Walkers character is also a good wrap up. In some ways the characters almost change positions.
In short stream the movie soon. The way I look at it is it should be seen in the same way that Schindler's List should be seen. As almost an education on hate and how it should be dealt with.

Saving God (2008 PG13)
The movie stars Ving Rhames (Surrogates, Day of the Dead), Ricardo Chavira (Desporate Housewifes tv, Rockaway), Dean McDermott (Allen Tracker, Bloodknot) (ok has anybody seen Bloodknot), Kate Todd (Grizzly Rage, Booky Makes Her Mark), Dwain Murphy, and Kim Roberts (Wilderness Survival for Girls).
The plot is Rhames takes over his fathers church after serving 15 years for murder. He tries to help a drug runner, Murphy for the neighborhood drug dealer McDermott.
Im rating this movie as a C-. Over all I would say skip it its not that good. The first scene at Rhames parents grave site, I assume they died while he was in prison, was lacking and it set a bad tone for the rest of the movie. Chavira does an ok job as a TV preacher, he has one good scene outside the police station, but not great. I think they were going for the characters having bravado. I dont know if its the script, acting or directing but it just does not get to a place you can say wow thats great.
I saw a connection between Rhames characted and the role Billy Bob Thourton plays in Slingblade. They both killed someone, got sent to prison (or a mental instution) and yet there violence never really leaves there personality;
The ending of the movie is good but not enough for me to say go and stream the movie. In stead stream Slngblade or see the 30 or so minute short, with Molly Ringwall, that the movie was based on.

Mr Las Vegas (2006 TV 14)
This movie stars Mathew Bora, Andrea Abrahams and Peter Lavilla.
The basic plot of the movie is Bora, a has been Vegas comedian (he comes across as a never was), and Abrahams, a dry cleaner, falls in love.
Lets not waste time this movie I would like to rate what ever is worse then an F. The only good thing about this movie is it was only 72 minutes long. Bora directed this dog of a film as well as stars in it. I now know why they say someone who acts as there own lawyer has a fool for a client.
Its not only that Boras jokes are bad to make it worse you have to hear them deleverd poorly several times through the movie. The dialog for the sterotypical Jewish Mother is just as bad but at least not that repetive. There was a hat that appears out of nowhere then disapears, watching a tv thats not on. There were a few technical, problems.
Ok so I will try and find one good thing about this movie and here it is. If I am ever at your house and bothering you put this movie on and I will leave. If I had the power to take away someones SAG card this movie would make me want to.

Thick as Theives (1999 R)
The movie stars Alec Baldwin (30 Rock tv, The Hunt for Red October), Andre Braugher (Homicide tv, City of Angles), Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite), Rebeca De Mornay (Riskey Bussiness, The Hand that Rocks the Cradel), Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek 2009, Pasenger 57), Khandi Alexander (News Radio tv, Rain), and Janeane Garofalo (Mystery Men, Dogma)
The plot is Baldwin, a theif for hire, is set up to take a fall by White. They end up getting in the tit or tat retaliation that also drags in an Italian mob boss.
Im rating this movie as a B. If you in the mood for a campy movie that for me is very good. Campy movies are eather a total hit and a total miss. This is one that works on all fronts for me. It started from the first scene for me. It set a very good mood for me. And as for me you want a good movie you are off to a good start with Braugher and Alexander in it.
The only thing that did not work for me was DeMornay. As petty as it sounds I did not like her hair and her charcter seemd one dimentional that was distracting. She plays a cop. If the other characters were one dimentional it was not distracting.
My oppion if you are looking for something on the mindless side (not as serious as Water for Elephants by any means) go and see it. It wont be up for any Oscars but for what it is, it is very good.

Tennessee (2008 R)
The movie stars Adam Rottenberg, Ethen Peck (Ten Things I Hate About You), Mariah Carey (Precious), Lance Reddick (Way of War, I Dreamed of Africa).
The plot of the movie is brothers head back home to Tennessee in search of a abusive dad to get tested for bone marrow to help with Pecks health. On the way they get help from Carey, an abused waitress with dreams of singing in Nashville.
Im in an in between feelings about this movie. Im going back and forth in my head with the rating of this movie. I will go with a C- and say skip it but I am not at all convinced about it. Others may like the movie. Most of the movie, which is just a road trip movie, I am indiffrent about. The cllimax was good but there was a scene after that which was a little disapointing. The brothers do a fine job and Carey is alright also. The plot seems to me to drag in the bulk of the film but as I said the climax was very good.
