Feed the Fish (2009 NR)

The movie stars Ross peterson (The Freebie ), Kathryn Aselton (The Freebie, had to include it, Easier with Practice), Tony Shalhoub (Monk tv, Barton Fink), Barry Corbin (Bitter Harvest, Northern Exposure), Susan Shalhoub Larkink, Ross Partridge.
The plot is fairly typical.  In an attempt to get over writters block, and his wife leaving him, Peterson goes to Wisconson to write a sequell to a childrens book.  (I think he goes with his wifes brother kind of weird).  He meets small town people and falls in love with the town and a particular person.
I am rating this movie as a C.  I could go eather way on this movie.  I wanted to like it more then I did.  It was close to being a good movie.  This may be a movie that needs to be seen on a bigger screen then my computer.  The characters are interisting and the plot is ok even if not that origional.

Man of the Century (1999 R)

The movie stars Gibsona Frazier (Law and Order guest spot), Cara Buono (Waterland, Happy Accidents), Ian Edwards (Live Nude Comedy), Brian Davies, Susan Egan
The movie centers on a newspaper reporter who acts like its the 1920's even though its current day.  He is having trouble with his girlfirend, on the verge of getting fired, pressured by muscle from a corrupt DA, and has some mommy issues.
This movie is bad there is no other way of saying this.  I rated the move as an F.  Most movies need the viewer to have some suspension of disbeleif.  It was impossible ot do with this main character.  I just cant beleive he would not try to adjust himself to his surrondings.  The idea of the movie is a fish out of watter.  I just cant see how this movie got financing.  I think 5 year olds could come up with a better idea for a movie but thats just my view.

I'm With Lucy (2002 R)

The movie stars Monica Potter (Parenthood tv,  Without Limits), John Hannah (I Accuse, Spartacus), Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries, The Science of Sleep), Anthony LaPaglia (Betsy's Wedding, The Client), Henry Thomas (Legands of the Fall, Bombshell), julianne Nicholson (Staten Island, Flannnel Pajamas), Harold Ramis (Ghost Busters), David Boreanaz (Bones tv, These Girls) and Robert Klein.
The plot of the movie is on her way to her wedding Potter flashes back to five blind dates she went on in a years time one of which she is marring.
So Im giving this move a lackluster C.  The first half or so of this movie is really bad (D-).  I saw nothing in these dates that would make me beleive that they would go on a second date.  It just may be me but the first half of the movie is just too hard to get through.  I would say skip it.  Also I had trouble wit Potters character being named Lucy (Sandra Bullocks character name from While You Were Sleeping.)  As a side note is it me or do Potter and Julia Roberts have the same lips.

City Island (2009 PG 13)

The movie stars Andy Garcia (The Untouchables, Class Act), Julianna Margulies (ER tv, A Price above Rubles), Steven Strait, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Ezra Miller (Afterschool), Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island, Scream 3), and Alan Arkin (Glengary Glen Ross, The Russians are Comming, The Russian are Comming).
The plot of the is Garcia, a strugling actor/Corrections Officer, takes in his grown son as part of his parole.  A big part of the movie is secrets.  Garcia wantingto be an actor, his daughter becoming a stripper to make up for a lost scolership.  And the fact that Garcia has a grown son (his wife Margulies does not know) an ex con to live with them.
So I rated this movie as a C-,  The plot and structure of the movie are good.  This is a type of movie I like but it did not get to the point where I can recomend it.  I would say pass on it but it is not a strong pass.  My problem with the movie is Garcia and Margulies are trying to act like they are from City Island, a section of the Bronx.  For me they came across as acting and not real.  You may not have a problem with there performances but for me they were not that convincing.  Where Sandra Bullock was totally convincing in The Blind Side,  the lead actors in this movie were not up to that level of performance.

Gossip (2000 R)

The movie stars James Marsden (X-Men, Death at a Funeral), Lena Headey (Twice Apon aYesterday, Terminator: Sara Conner Cronacles tv), Joshua Jackson (Lone Star State of Mind, The Saftey of Objects), Kate Hudson (200 Cigerates, Desert Blue), Sharon Lawerance (The Only Thrill, Nearing Grace), Edward James Aloms (Splinter, Stand and Deliver).
The plot of the movie is three college students start a rumor about another student with the intention to write a report for a class.  The rumor grows and morphs with bad results.
The movie could be a partner movie with Easy A.  They both deal with the down side rumors and gossip.  This is a darker morive then Easy A, not intended for young kids.  I think this is a good movie for social commentary.  I think the plot of the movie could also be viewed as bullying.  The climax of the movie may be a little too out there but was just maybe on this side of disbeleif.
I rated the movie as a B.  If you areee in the mood for a double feature stream Easy A also.  It is a good commentary of the over sexed part of society.  And no matter what what you say about yourself or others can cause damage that can have real effects on peoples lives.

Wake (2003 TV-MA)

The movie stars Martin Landau (North by Northwest, The Majestic), Gale Harold (Grays Anatomy tv), Rainer Judd, Blake Gibbons (The Legend of Butch and Sundance), and John Wintrop Philbrick.
There is no real plot for the movie.  I will say the movie revolves around a situation.  Two broters plan to help there mother die by giving her an overdose.  The night is interupted by there convict brother and there cop brother (who helped the convict escape from jail).  The rest of the movie is them rehashing there childhood.
I rated this movie as a B or maybe even as a B+.  This movie is very good.  At times is disturbing.  At one time one brother is tied up and beaten and there are a game or two of Russian Roulette.  I dont think the movie is for kids.  If you want a happy feel good movie stream something else this is not your movie.  The acting is great.  The music has added a lot to the movie also.  Its a small budget movie as in the credits there are multiple roles filled by the same person.
I woud of rated the movie higher but it is dusturbing at times.  Overall I think this is a movie that should be seen by a lot of people of the approiate age.  If you are in the mood for looking into the disfunction of a family this is the movie you want to see.

The Big Hit (1998 R)

The movie stars Mark Wahlberg (Three Kings, The Italian Job 2003),  Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Courage Under Fire), Avery Brooks (Spencer for Hire, Deep Space Nine both tv), Christina Applegate (Married with Children tv, Sweetest Thing), Bookeem Woodbine (Almost Heros, The Poker House).
The plot of the movie is a group of four gansters kidnap the daugter of a recently bankrupt bussinman.  The daughter happens to be the God daugter of the gansters boss.
I rated this movie as an F.  To say this movie failed on every frount is an understatement.  It tried to be a ganster movie but the first scene I could not get over how stupid it was.  I could not do the suspension of disbeleif to think it was funny or good.  The four gansters are so stupid it is impossible to think they could tie there shoes with out messing it up much less be hit men or pull off a kidnapping.
It may work as a campy movie for some but not for me.  This movie is so bad I may have to go back and give The Fighter a lower grade just because Walberg was in this movie.  Again I cant say how bad this movie is.  I would go on but to waste more time on this dog of a movie is not acceptable.

Assisted Living (2005 NR)

This movie stars Michael Bonsignore, Maggie Riley (The Dance of Death), Nancy Jo Boone, and Clint
Vaught.  I assume this movie is wth non actors so not much other work out there.
The movie takes place in an nursing home.  Bonsignore is a nurse, or slightly lower on the scale, who is not the ideal employee.  He is late and gets high on his way to work and at work.  One of his "duties" is to fake calls from residents to God, and also one residents son.
The movie switches between "interviews with employees" and the plot of the movie.  That flipping between the interviews and the plot work very well.  Another good part of the movie is the calls to God.  Bonsignore places the calls then answers them in another room. Is it better to lie to people and tell them what they want to hear and calm them or to not give them false hope.  The music lends well to the tone of the movie
The only bad thing about the movie is Bonsignore.  I dont think he did a good job.  Everything else of the movie was very good.  If I would rate Bonsignore I would rate him as a C- and say pass on the movie.  The other parts of the movie I would rate as a B or B+.
On the whole I would rate the movie as a C+.  Go and rent the movie.  If you can get past the lead caracter there are other things to be satisfied with.

The Statement (1992 R)

The movie stars Michael Caine (Hannah and Her Sisters, Educiating Rita), Tilda Swinton (The Curious Case Benjamin Button, Broken Flowers),
The plot is pretty compelling.  Caine was a Nazi durring the war.  He is wanted for the killing of 7 Jews durring the war. He went on the run in French monistaries for the next 44 years.  His past catches up with him when hit men come after him and the Church is no longer offering safe refuse.  Swinton is an ex judge who is charged with bringing him to justice.
I rate the movie as a C+.  Dont watch the movie when you are tired.  You have ot pay attention to who is comming after him.  The movie starts off slow but the suspence towards the ends makes it a movie worth watching.

A Small Circle of Friends (1980 R)

The movie stars Brad Davis, Karen Allen (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc, Starman), Jameson Parker (White Dog, Anatomy of a Seduction), Shelly Long (Cheers tv, The Money Pit).
The plot is of three people who become friends, while at Harverd.  This developes into the three living together.  The movie is set durring the late 60's and early70's.  The movie is in the form of a flashback when Allen and Parkers characters have a chance meeting in the present.
Im rating the movie as a C-, D.  There is a song that was used throughout the movie with a french horn.  It was a poor choice.  The song was trying to get me to feel like this was the greatest movie ever (not exactly what Im trying to say but kind of close.)  It came across as portentious and did not work for me.  Also with in the first five minutes you are intorduced to Davis's character.  For the last few weeks the word meglomaniac has been stuck in my head.  Davis character was a maglomaniac.  He pretended to be blind so he could go to the frount of the registration line.  He goes on about a blind person being able to take a photo class then everybody in line applauded.  He came across as he is the only person that matters.  For me all I had for his character was hate.  The fact that his character dies is no big deal so what.  Thats not a good reaction for a main character.

Pretty Ugly People (2009 R)

The movie stars Missi Pyle (As Good as it Gets, Galexy Quest), Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town tv, Brothers and Sisters tv), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly tv, The Nines), Jack Noseworthy (Surrogates, Mojave Moon), Octavia Spencer (The Nines, Being John Malcovich) Larry Sullivan, Phil Lewis (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody).
The plot of the movie is Pyle invites her best friends from college to go on a hike with her to finish loosing a lot of weight (the friends think she is dying).  It is shooting for something like what I remember The Big Chill as being.
I rate this movie as a D.  Pyle gets her friends there on a shady premise, a lie.  And when the friends gets there all they do is bitch.  It is hard for me to see them as friends.  They come across as hating each other.  It just did not work for me.  They did not come across as friends at all.  I supose the flip side is the ability to be honest with friends and tell them the truth.  For me they came across as people who have grown so far apart that I cant see them as friends at all.
My advice is go out and stream The Big Chill.  Even though I have not seen any part of the Big Chill in at least 20 years I feel safe in saying its a better movie.

The Monitors (169 PG)

The movie stars Guy Stockwell (Santa Sangre), Susan Oliver (Murder She Wrote tv), Larry Storch (F Troupe tv, Gun Feaver), and Ed Begley.
The plot of the movie is a band of freedom fighters/ resistant fighters try and get rid of austeer aliens imposing strict rules.
Lets not waist any time I rated this movie as an F.  It was bad.  It would be in the catagory of Cult hit f it were any good.  It may be like They Live (a good example for Cult classic for me) if it were any good.  In short go and do something fun like root canal or get a stint put in just stay away from this dog of a movie.

The Italian Job (1969 G)

The movie stars Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules, Hannah and Her Sisters), Noel Coward (The Astonished Heart), and Benny Hill (Yes that Benny Hill).
Caine takes over a plan to steal $3 million in gold, form the Italian mob (yeah steal from the mob lets do that) when a girlfriends father dies after planning the heist but gets killed before he can carry out the plan.  Coward finances the plan from jail.
A few months ago I heard a movie reviewer say dont remake good movies remake bad ones.  At first I thought this was a bad idea.  If it failed once why do it over again.  This movie proves that the movie review was right.  This is a movie that needed to be remaid.  Dont remake Dances with Wolves they got it right the first time.   I rated this movie as a D.
This movie took every to get going, that was bad.  It focused almost all on Caine that was bad.  What made the remake so good was the sub characters are very interisting.  The end of this movie stops mid sentence very bad idea (just like how The Last Airbender ended, very bad).  There were some similitaries between the two movies enought to make it clear that the second was a retooling of the first.
My advice stick with the Walberg, Green, Theren, Stratham.  Just a side note I find surreal.  Seth Green takes over the role of Benny Hill that just blows my mind.

Red Riding Hood (2011 PG13)

The movie stars Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Mamma Mia), Gary Oldman (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Fifth Element), Virginia Madsen (Prairie Home Companion, Sideways)
Obviously the plot is based on the old farry tail.  Its about a village that has been held hostage by a warewolf for two years.  Seyfried's sister is killed by the wolf.  A minister I think, Oldman, comes to help rid the village of the wolf.  Seyfried is in love with someone, its too bad he is not the one she is suspose to marry.
I have no memory of previews affecting how I think about a movie.  This time it did.  My thougts were if these are the movies the studio thinks someone in the theater will like to see next its not looking too good for me liking Red.  Also the first or second scene looked like it was filmed on a studio not in the real settings of the woods.  I had high expectation for the movie.  They were not met.
I rate this movie as a C- or D.  My suggestion save the money from the movie and spend it on buying a book of folklure and read that instead.

Wilby Wonderful (2004 PG 13)

The movie stars Ellen Page (Juno, X Men The Last Stand), Sandra Oh (Sideways, Grey's Anatomy tv, Rabbit Hole), Paul Gross (Eastwick tv, Men with Brooms), Maury Chaykin (Dances With Wolves, Being Julia).
The plot of the movie revolves around the residents of a small island town in Canada.  Oh is a work obsessed realtor married to a cop Gross who had a brief affair wit Pages mom who has had a series of bad realtionships and just moved back to the island.  There is a scandel about a golf course being planned by the corrupt mayor Chaykin who is stirring up trouble with a scandel of gays and drug use at the future site of the course.
The movie is all about the flawed people of this small island community.  The writting and acting are very good.  Some of the flaws are self induced and some of the trouble is external.  The movie just works.  I dont know if there is much of a plot but the people are connected enough to make it worth the time to watch.  I am not a good judge about movies being good for kids but this one I would  say is for older kids.
Im rating this movie as a B+ or A-.

Equinox (1992 R)

The movie stars Mathew Modine (Pacific Heights, And the Band Played On TV), Laura Flynn Boyle (The Rookie, The Practice TV), Tyra Ferrell (White Men Cant Jump), Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinnie, The Wrestler), Tate Donovan (Get Well Soon) and Kevin J O'Connor (No Escape, Peggy Sue Got Married).
The plot of this movie revolves around two very diffrent twins who were seperated at birth.  One a mobster the other a slow witted mechanic.  In the background of the plot there is a $4 million trust fund but that reall ydoes not factor in the movie.  The description of the movie I think was written by someone who saw an earler cut of the movie or did not see the movie, there was a glaring mistake on the plot summary on Netflix.
The characters were one dimentional.  It was stated by a character that the characters are broken.  This is true about the Boyle (maybe the only good performance in the movie), and the car mechanic Modine character.  Boyles character is interisting I dont know what it is thats interisting but she is.  The first half of the movie there did not seem to have a plot at all  The last 45 minutes got better.  I am on the fence of about the movie.  I was all ready to give the movie a bad grade.  The plot started so bad and got a little better so I am really on the fence about how to rate this movie.
I will rate this movie as a C-,D.  After thinking about it I would say pass but might see how some might like it.

Blue State (2007 R)

The movie stars Breckin Meyer (The Craft, Tall Lights Fade), Anna Paquin (The Piano, True Blood tv), Mike Bell (High Life).
While working for John Kerry, blogger and liberal, Meyers makes a drunkin promise on tape for a local TV station that if Bush wins a second term he will move to Canada.  Pressured to keep his promise Paquin joins him as a driving partner.
Im rating this movie as a C-.  Id say skip it.  I have two problems with the movie. One is dont have your main character so stupid as to make a pledge like this while drunk.  I mean come on man.  Problem two is Meyers character is complaining about George W Bush.  I disliked Bush as much as the next guy. Knowing some facts about Mubaric and Moammar Gadhafi  how bad is Bush.  The implication that 8 years of Bush would even come close to 42 years of Gadhafi.  Grow up and if you dont like Bush Im sure you can skip Canada and live with Gadhafi as your leader.  There is something called Suspension of Disbeleif.  This was a little too much for me to swallow.  The road trip was alright as far as the dialog between Meyer and Paquin so that part of the movie was alright and somewhat interistng but not enough to over come my problems with the movie.  The ending of the movie was also ok but not enough to stop me from thinking that Meyers character is a two year old and he does not like the outcome so he takes his toys and goes home.  Grow up.

Alice (1988 NR)

   This move stars Kristyna Kohoutova.
This is a version of Alice in Wonderland that uses stop motion, puppets, and animal skulls.
Im not sure how to review this movie.  Its bizzar.  The only other movie that comes to mind for amount of bizzarness is Naked Lunch, with Peter Weller.  I dont know that much about Alice in Wonderland but if this is true to the book thats one bizzar book.  The Jonny Deep version that came out last year was pretty bizzar so the book must of been on the drug enduced form for the source material.
I would rate this movie as a D.  The stuffed rabbit had eyes that if I were young would creep me out.  But if bizzar is you thing then this may be just the thing for you.

The Adjustment Bureau (2011 PG 13)

The movie stars Matt Damon (All the Pretty Horses, Courage Under Fire), Emily Blunt (Sunshine Cleaning, Gideon's Daughter), Terrance Howard (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Alien Nation I thnk), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, 8 Mile), John Slattery (Mad Men tv, Traffic).
Damon and Blunt are destin to be together.  The only problem the Adjustmet Bureau in an attempt to keep both of there destinies on track must assure that they wont get together.  There is time in there past whe they are suspose to be together but that was in the past, I think that is a flaw in the plot line but thats just me,  they were suspose to get together but not now.  I would of prefered to hear why they arent suspose to be together.
I rated the movie as a C+.  At times I would say its a must see but on the whole I cant quiet say you have to go and see the movie.  Its ok but not a must see.  There are parts of the movie that reminded me of Quatum Leap TV, "to put right what once went wrong," What Dreams May Come, soul mates people who are suspose to be together, and an episode of the 1980's episode of the The Twighlight Zone, the episode where a character sees the people who build the world suspose to be invisible..  It did not bother me that it reminded me of other things for some reason.
The Bureau is an interisting organization.  kind of a variation of Men In Black.  They are "angels" and work for the Chairman who is hinted to be God.  There are checks and ballances placed on the agents which I though was interisting.  They have been around for ages and live longer then people.  The bureau has a hirearchy, and limits on  the "damage" they can cause before passing the decisions up the chain of command.  There is also an nice scene of when the agents tried to back off and let free will take over, the down side of that were the dark ages, a few World Wars and The Cuban Missle Crisis.

Pizza (2004/2005 NR)

The movie stars Etha Embry (Sweet Home Alabama, The Inndependent), Kylie Sparks (Desperate Housewifes tv), Jullie Hagerty (Airplane, A Midsummers Night's Sex Comedy).
On her 18th birthday Sparks tags along with Embry while he delevers pizzas.
This movie is very bad.  I rated the movie as an F.  There was nothing good about this movie.  It tried to be this Mystic Pizza, Dead Poets Society indepedent comming of age movie.  It failed in every respect.  At the start of the movie Embry "thanks" a pizza.  He does this to thank the pizza for all it has give him.  It was so bad a scene that it was hard to take anything else in seriously.
If you want to waste your time watch an Adam Sandler, or a Paulie Shore movie first it may make this dog of a movie seem better.
